Production Editor - Case Study

A UK-based film/TV post-production editor with credits across major features and series was scaling quickly. Work regularly took them on location worldwide for weeks at a time, while they split life between a home outside London and an office in central London. With new UK and U.S. clients coming on board, they wanted a structure that was tax-efficient, bankable, and ready for future investments—including a buy-to-let property and industry-related projects.

The Problem

They were being paid as an independent contractor with no formal structure, leading to tax leakage, mixed personal/business spending, and inconsistent invoicing across jurisdictions.

U.S. client onboarding and payments were cumbersome, banking was fragmented, and there was no clean pathway to hold assets, reinvest profits, or purchase property.

Without governance or inter-company agreements, moving funds between ventures was inefficient and exposed them to compliance friction.

The Solution

We implemented a multi-jurisdiction blueprint anchored by a UK operating company for editing services and a U.S. LLC dedicated to contracting and receiving client payments—configured to streamline onboarding and avoid unnecessary U.S. tax exposure.

A UK holding company was added to enable tax-efficient movement of funds and future investments, and a separate UK SPV was formed to ring-fence the property purchase.

We opened business bank accounts, drafted inter-company and service agreements, and set clear expense policies to maximize legitimate deductions. Distributions planned with tax-efficient lower band dividends, creating a clean personal cashflow path.

We continue to provide operational support—legal/compliance, bookkeeping, filings—to stay audit-ready as the portfolio grows.
